EMPOWERing Students to Discover More

Apply by November 23, 2018 for Spring 2019 XSEDE EMPOWER Internships

Application deadline for Spring 2019 XSEDE EMPOWER internships: November 23, 2018

Are you an undergraduate looking to step foot into the world of supercomputing, conduct your own research, and make valuable connections in the HPC community? Apply to get involved with XSEDE EMPOWER (Expert Mentoring Producing Opportunities for Work, Education, and Research), an internship program where undergraduates have the opportunity to participate in actual XSEDE activities, like computational research and education in all fields of study, data analytics research and education, networking, system maintenance and support, and visualization.

We are interested in undergraduate students who have the skills or are interested in acquiring the skills to work on XSEDE projects. (That's right, as long as you have a high desire to learn, you don't need to have extensive prior experience!) Interns are matched with a mentor from the XSEDE community (staff, researcher, or educator) who will show you the ropes as you work together on a project that contributes to the work of XSEDE.

The program provides a stipend to students and resources for the training of those students who work on XSEDE projects for one semester, one quarter, one summer, or longer. Participation is strongly encouraged for mentors and students belonging to groups traditionally underrepresented in HPC, including, but not limited to: women, minorities, and persons with disabilities. There are three tiers of participation for students depending on existing skill level: learner, apprentice, and intern. Appropriate stipends will support each student. Learn more about the program and how to apply here or email xsede-empower@shodor.org.
