Update 2

Posted by Mahidhar Tatineni on 12/04/2019 09:04 UTC

SDSC Comet is back in production with an updated OS and application software stack. As a reminder, users will need to resubmit jobs in the new environment. For jobs using SDSC built modules/application binaries, users should verify and change their job submission scripts to load the updated module versions. Details of the changes were provided on our upgrade page (https://www.sdsc.edu/services/hpc/comet_upgrade). Similarly, users with their own applications might need to recompile in the new environment.

We are continuing to work on the infrastructure and tools for setting up Comet virtual clusters (VCs) in this environment. SDSC staff will contact VC administrators once the VC infrastructure is ready.

Please email help@xsede.org if you have any questions.

Update 1

Posted by Mahidhar Tatineni on 12/01/2019 16:02 UTC

This is a reminder of the upcoming upgrade of the Comet OS on Dec 3, 2019. We have a reservation in place to prevent jobs from running during the upgrade. Jobs currently in the queue that do not finish running before the maintenance will need to be resubmitted in the new OS environment. Users can run SDSC builds of applications (such as AMBER, NAMD, MrBayes etc) as before by loading the available modules. For users with their own codes, we have set up a subset of nodes to allow building and testing in the new environment in advance of the upgrade. Access info for the test nodes and more details are provided at:

https://www.sdsc.edu/services/hpc/comet_upgrade

Please email help@xsede.org if you have any questions.

We will be upgrading the Comet OS on Dec 3, 2019. In addition to the OS upgrade, we will be updating compilers (Intel, PGI, GNU), applications, and libraries. Users can run SDSC builds of applications (such as AMBER, NAMD, MrBayes etc) as before by loading the available modules. For users with their own codes, we have set up a subset of nodes to allow building and testing in the new environment in advance of the upgrade.
