Atmosphere sign on change due to XSEDE/Globus sign on changes

Posted by Jeremy Fischer on 04/27/2021 15:03 UTC

The message below went out via XSEDE User News earlier this morning. Since Jetstream utilizes Globus Auth for Atmosphere logins, this will potentially impact all Atmosphere users.

API users will not be affected by this change.

We do apologize for the rather abrupt change without warning. We just learned about it today, as well.

The original notice follows with the key point being:

As of April 27, XSEDE has transitioned XSEDE web SSO to use the “idp.xsede.org” service. As a result of this change, all web SSO logins using XSEDE credentials now require multi-factor authentication (MFA). Users who have not yet enrolled in XSEDE Duo will be prompted to enroll the first time they log in using idp.xsede.org. Users will continue to have the option to use linked campus identities for authentication, which may or may not require MFA.

This means all Atmosphere users will be prompted for two factor authentication if you’ve already enrolled via XSEDE or to enroll in XSEDE Duo on your next log in to Atmosphere.

Please contact help@xsede.org if there are questions or concerns.

Thank you,
The Jetstream Team

XSEDE’s web single sign-on (SSO) process is used to log in to XDMod, Jetstream’s web interface, several XSEDE web sites (JIRA, Confluence, RDR, Research Software Portal, etc.), in the User Portal’s “Other Sign In Options”, and is one of the options for logging in to Globus Transfer. This web login process previously used a “weblogin.xsede.org” service operated by Globus for XSEDE.

As of April 27, XSEDE has transitioned XSEDE web SSO to use the “idp.xsede.org” service. As a result of this change, all web SSO logins using XSEDE credentials now require multi-factor authentication (MFA). The XSEDE User Portal (XUP) main login process does not use XSEDE’s web SSO and is not affected by this change.

Thanks,
