Call for PEARC18 Contributions: Help Shape the PEARC18 Technical Program

The Practice & Experience in Advanced Research Computing (PEARC) annual conference series fosters the creation of a dynamic and connected community of advanced research computing professionals who advance leading practices at the frontiers of research, scholarship and teaching, and industry application. Developers, applications teams, students, researchers, innovators, CIOs, IT staff and policy makers from academia, government, industry, CI providers and international organizations present their research and development results and state of the practice experiences that have significantly advanced the effective utilization of cyberinfrastructure and advanced digital resources. Particular emphasis is placed on engaging under-represented minorities, under-represented domains, women and people with disabilities. The PEARC conference provides a range of formal and informal opportunities for people to interact and address their diverse needs and interests. In addition, the PEARC exhibitor program will provide a forum for companies, universities, and organizations to present innovative products, services, and activities.

The theme of the 2018 conference (PEARC18) is Seamless Creativity. We invite contributions and participation from everyone who works to realize the promise of advanced computing as the enabler of knowledge creation and application without unnecessary barriers. If your work addresses these challenges, PEARC18 is the forum to share, learn and inspire progress.

The PEARC18 Executive Committee (https://www.pearc18.pearc.org/about) invites you to help shape the technical program of the PEARC18 conference. To this end, we invite you to submit proposals (abstracts only) via https://ssl.linklings.net/conferences/pearc/. The opportunity to submit proposals will close at 10pm EST on Friday, December 1, 2017. Authors of proposals selected for technical review will be contacted by Friday, January 19, 2018. See “Review Process” below.

Submission types are: Technical Paper; Tutorial; Workshop; Panel; Birds of a Feather; Showcase; Poster; and Special Event. (See topics of interest below.)

Abstracts should list all authors (and their affiliations), indicating those who are graduate or undergraduate students. The abstract should summarize the proposed topic and describe the proposed organizational format, the intended audience and any special technical requirements (A/V, network, power etc.). References to prior instances of the proposed activity (or similar) should be provided as URLs.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

Procurement, operation and management of advanced computing and data infrastructure Facilitating productive and secure use of advanced computing and data infrastructure Adopting and adapting new and emerging technologies Creative uses of advanced computing and data infrastructure Developing a highly skilled workforce realizing the full potential of all demographics

Review Process

Proposals for Contribution will be evaluated by the PEARC18 Technical Program committee (www.pearc18.pearc.org/about) for topical interest and suitability for the proposed format. Authors will be advised by January 19, 2018 whether or not their proposal has been selected for technical review. The committee may suggest a format that differs from the submission type or event duration proposed by the authors; it may suggest that several proposers merge their contributions into a single event, etc. The committee may make selection for technical review contingent upon the authors’ acceptance of such recommendations.

Proposals selected for technical review will be invited to submit materials specific to the submission type. Detailed instructions and deadlines will be provided on January 19, 2018. The technical review process will result in the final list of accepted contributions.
