XSEDE Services Available to XSEDE Service Providers and Optionally to Campuses

  • XSEDE 7/24 Operations Service
    XSEDE maintains 7x27 operations staff for support of XSEDE Operations
     
  • XSEDE Certificate Authorities issuing certificates
    XSEDE has Certificate authorities among the member Service Providers that can issue MyProxy user certificates.  Host certificates are available from InCommon under XSEDE's InCommom membership for hosts registered with an .xsede.org domain name.
     
  • XSEDE RT Ticket system services (https://tickets.xsede.org)
    XSEDE runs an RT ticket system at https://tickets.xsede.org that provides internal and end user ticket tracking capabilities.
     
  • XSEDE RSA two factor authentication service for Service Providers and XSEDE Staff
    XSEDE operates a 7x24 RSA two factor authentication service deployed at NICS (primary) and PSC (secondary) for security of XSEDE central services and for use by XSEDE Service Providers for login, sudo or other security functionalities.  The XSEDE two factor service runs RSA 8.0 software and supports up to 255 end user seats.  Service Providers can take advantage of this service with, in general, up to 10 tokens given to service providers for free.  Any number of Service Provider hosts and services, such as sudo, can be configured for use with XSEDE two factor.  For more information contact the XSEDE SP Coordinator Victor Hazlewood at victor@utk.edu.  If you would like to take advantage of this services just send in a request to help@xsede.org with contact information of the person to contact with installation instructions.

  • XSEDEnet
    XSEDE supports a private network across Internet2's 100 gigabit backbone that connect XSEDE Service Providers.  Currently, most participation is by allocation Level 1 Service Providers, however, some Level 2 and Level 3 providers are connected for their stated purposes.  If you are interested in getting connected contact the SP Coordinator, Victor Hazlewood, at victor@utk.edu or turn in an XSEDE ticket.  XSEDEnet Level 1 Service Providers join as required by their awards and others can submit a request and XSEDE will work on a MOU to allow connection to XSEDEnet with the SP bearing the cost to connect and maintain the connection.

  • XSEDE Portal Software Search updated by the XSEDE IU group.  Take a look at https://portal.xsede.org/software. Please review all software postings in information services to list all your SPs software information consistently.

    SDIACT-180 XSEDE two factor authentication for end users is a new activity created by SD&I and we have been asked to provide SP reviewers for the SD&I Design and Security Review.  See the activity review page for details.  SP coordinator is coordinating SP staff who will participate in the reviews.

    SDIACT-003 CA Certificate Installer has completed Operational Review.  A deployment plan is under developement.

    SDIACT-063 Science Gateway User Count activity has completed its Operational review.  The operational review test report is available.  A draft deployment plan is in the works.  Documentation avialable at https://www.xsede.org/web/guest/for-developers.

    SDIACT-188 has completed joint SD&I and Operational testing and is ready for deployment.  Instructions are available in the installation document.  This goes along with GridFTP 5.2.5.

    SDIACT-198 Retire Globus MDS for information services and replace with a stop gap alternative has completed operational review and is ready for deployment by SPs.  See the deployment plan for details.  Operational review test report is available.

    The XSEDE Security group is excited to announce that IGTF-accredited host certificates recognized by XSEDE resources can now be provided through InCommon.  As such, NCSA will no longer be issuing host certificates for external domains, i.e. those other than *.ncsa.illinois.edu and *.xsede.org.  A web page that details the new processes for obtaining host certificate is located at  https://www.xsede.org/security/certificates.

  • 8/15/2014 SP Coordinator sent a note to ops-sp-software list explaining a bug in the UNICORE command-line client (UCC) myproxy-logon-unicore which is a script developed for XSEDE SPs to make using UCC much easier for end users.  A new version of myproxy-logon-unicore is being developed and Operations will update http://software.xsede.org/production/UNICORE/UNICORE-6.6.0p3/ucc-client tar file as soon as the script is available.  Also, the script will be put at the top level for those sites who already have the software installed.

  • 8/4/2014 On the XSEDE SP Software call we discussed the Genesis II software being released for deployment.  SDSC issued their concerns with the software with a written description to Operations.  The Genesis II software is scheduled to be installed on the IU Mason cluster and I'll ask them to give an update on the installation and testing for the benefit of XSEDE SPs.
  • 7/14/2014 XSEDE14 conference is this week. We will have an Operations All Hands meeting on 7/18/2014 at 9am in A706 in the conference hotel.  An XSEDE All Hands meeting on 7/17/2014 in A706 at 2pm.
  • 7/10/2014 Joe Lappa will be leaving PSC.  Tim Boerner, the Deputy Networking Group Leader will be Interim Networking Group leader until further notice.
  • 7/7/2014 UNICORE 6.6.0p3 released for deployment by all SPs with a compute resource.  See the UNICORE 6.6.0p3 deployment document.
  • 3/31/2014 GridFTP 5.2.5 version of Globus GridFTP file transfer has completed the XSEDE Engineering process and is now available for deployment.   See GridFTP 5.2.5 deployment document.
  • 3/31/2014 xdusage version 1.1.2 has completed the XSEDE Engineering process and is now available for deployment.  This is now available using an rpm installation method. See xdusage 1.1.2 deployment document.
  • 3/12/2014 Deployment of production version of Genesis II root name service and secure token service has begun.  Expect that this will be deployed by the end of the month, barring any problems.

  • 11/7/2013 UNICORE client documentation posted on XSEDE website at https://www.xsede.org/unicore.
  • 11/5/2013 SDIACT-123, SDIACT-126 passed Operational Readiness Review and testing now can commence.
  • 10/28/2013 UNICORE services deployed across XSEDE completed.  Client testing is underway to all UNICORE services.
  • 9/25/2013 SD&I Handed off SDIACT-123 and SDIACT-126 to ST&D for Operational review and testing.  ST&D will be combining these two and these are the UNICORE and Genesis II execution management system and global federated file system.
  • 9/20/2013 LSU has won an NSF MRI for a cluster that will join XSEDE in April 2014. Welcome back LSU!
  • 7/31/2013 Purdue retires cluster resources from XSEDE.  Data access available to users through December
  • 6/3/2013 GridFTP 5.2.2 or higher deployments completed.  See GridFTP Deployment plan for details.
  • 5/17/2013 GridFTP in UNICORE software accepted for production deployment. See XSEDE software repository for UNICORE 6.5.1.
  • 5/3/2013 Unicore Deployment underway.  See UNICORE Deployment plan for details.

Campus (Level 3 Service Provider) News Items

  • SP Forum has started a Level 3 Service Provider monthly meeting to discuss items of particular interest to campuses.  Level 3 Service Providers are campuses or computing centers that have interest in two communication with XSEDE.  Dana Brunson the Level 3 Service Provider Chair hosts this meeting on the second Monday of each month at 3pm Eastern.
