An Introduction to Beacon
Host site URL:
NOTE: Beacon is not an XSEDE resource currently, but XSEDE users are encouraged to attend training that will assist in their use of current and future XSEDE resources such as Stampede at TACC. Also, any tickets that you would like to submit need to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org NOT email@example.com. As such, there is no documentation on the XSEDE site for Beacon, so please visit http://www.jics.tennessee.edu/aace/beacon/ for information about the system and a QuickStart guide.
The University of Tennessee National Institute for Computational Sciences Beacon Project would like to invite you to a live training event at Oak Ridge National Laboratory on March 21-22, 2013. This two day training will include beginning, intermediate, and advanced topics and labs relating to using the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor, including lessons on:
Getting started on the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor
Compiling for Different modes of Xeon Phi coprocessor use
Accessing file systems from the Xeon Phi coprocessor
Using MPI natively and heterogeneously on the Xeon Phi coprocessor
Using OpenMP natively and in offload mode on the Xeon Phi coprocessor
Using MPI and OpenMP in a hybrid implementation on the Xeon Phi coprocessor
Using Intel’s MKL library, including automatic offload on the Xeon Phi coprocessor
Using asynchronous memory allocation, data transfer, and compute on Xeons and Xeon Phi coprocessors
Using IDBC, Vtune, FPMPI and Totalview for profiling and debugging on the Xeons and Xeon Phi coprocessors
Advanced threading and optimization concepts for the Xeon Phi coprocessor, including Cilk Plus
This training is scheduled to precede the SIAM SEAS 2013 Annual Meeting here in Knoxville/Oak Ridge, in hopes that many of you may be attending that event already. Information on SIAM SEAS attendance, lodging (which applies to the Xeon Phi training as well), and travel are available at: http://www.csm.ornl.gov/workshops/SIAM2013/.
Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org with your plans to attend so we may be sure that we have enough seats and badges. Also, we plan to webcast this training on the internet and a taped version should be available for asynchronous viewing after the event. Lastly, NICS will be having a free Spring Training event on the University of Tennesse-Knoxville campus March 25-27, the last day of which will be an abbreviated version of this workshop. Please see http://www.nics.tennessee.edu/spring-workshop-2013 for more details and registration.
